“It’s not my fault.”
That would be the one-liner to summarize Oliver Penn for you. He’s never been good at accepting his faults; mainly because everyone seems to always call him out on his flaws, or more frequently, the flaws he doesn’t have. Constantly derided, he’s made of habit of turning away from people. After all, he can’t do anything about it. It’s not his fault. More often than not, it’s easier for him to blame others than himself for what shortcomings he does have.
Because of this, he often comes off as rude, abrasive -- usually condescending or disagreeable. He’s aware of this, but he’s credited his behavior to how he’s been treated and doesn’t see a point to changing. In addition to being unsocialized, he’s not exactly the best at actually communicating with people. Females, especially. A long track record of failures has given him a complex or two.
Now in his second semester of college, he still hasn’t quite adjusted -- and it shows. Fumbling through classes, hiding away in his apartment, and not applying himself has left him in quite a precarious position.
If he can’t pass a certain GPA and credit load this semester, he’s going to flunk out of his community college. Aside from the shame of failing out of the bottom tier of higher learning, he doesn’t have the money to afford another semester upfront, without taking out another loan.
Presented with this winter semester of challenges, Oliver Penn might be forced to change his ways.
